What it is. Average retail pump price of petrol per litre in local currency.
Neither way is good in itself. Whether a change is welcome depends on why it happened, so read it against its own history and other countries.
Why it matters. A single figure says little on its own: its direction over time and its place among other countries say more.

|---|---|
| Feb 2026 | 1,051 local per litre |

Methodology
Average retail pump price of petrol per litre in local currency.
Retail pump price of petrol per litre, in local currency. Unit: local per litre.
Grade and place used: Nigeria, premium motor spirit, national average from the National Bureau of Statistics Price Watch; Kenya, super petrol, the Nairobi maximum price set by EPRA for the pricing period that starts on the 15th, dated by the month it starts; South Africa, 95-octane petrol, the inland (Gauteng) price set by the government; Egypt, 92-octane petrol, the fixed price set by the Ministry of Petroleum, dated by the month it took effect.
Ghana is not yet included: retail prices there are set by fuel marketers, and no official pump-price series has been chosen. Prices are not directly comparable between countries, because grades, taxes and price controls differ.
