In plain words

$0.05bn

What it is. Personal remittances received adds up the money and goods that people working abroad send to households at home, together with pay earned by cross-border workers. It is measured in current US dollars, so each year is valued at that year's prices. Transfers that move through informal channels are difficult to record, so the figure follows what passes through official channels.

Higher is better. A higher figure is better because more remittances put foreign currency directly into household budgets and support the country's external accounts. The latest figure, for 2025, is $0.05bn, up 1.3% on the $0.05bn of 2024. Since 2016 the range runs from a low of $0bn in 2017 to a high of $0.05bn, and the 2025 figure sits at that top of the range.

Why it matters. At $0.05bn a year, remittances reach a small group of Angolan households and give them income in foreign currency. For the state the inflow adds only a small amount to foreign exchange receipts. Households that receive these transfers can use them for everyday spending, school fees or small business costs.
