In plain words

6.5 m people

What it is. Population is the estimated number of people living in the Republic of the Congo at mid-year. Statisticians usually build it by projecting an earlier count forward with assumptions about births, deaths and migration, so it is a modelled figure between counts. It gives the size of the country and says nothing about age, where people live or how many have work.

Neither way is good in itself. Population has no good or bad direction because a larger number brings both a bigger workforce and market and more people to feed, school and house. The latest figure is 6.5 million in January 2025, up from 6.3 million a year earlier, a rise of 2.4%. Since 2016 the population has ranged from 5.2 million to 6.5 million, so the latest reading sits at the top of that range.

Why it matters. With 6.5 million people, every year of growth adds pupils to classrooms, patients to clinics and new job seekers to the labour market. Households feel it in housing and food demand. The state has to stretch schools, health services and infrastructure across a larger population. Firms see a growing pool of customers and workers.
