In plain words

5.7 m people

What it is. Population is the mid-year estimate of everyone living in Liberia. Figures between census counts are projections that rest on assumed births, deaths and migration, so they move smoothly even when real conditions shift. The total says nothing about age, where people live or how many are in work.

Neither way is good in itself. A larger population can mean a bigger workforce and market, and it can also mean more demand on food, housing and public services, so the direction carries no verdict by itself. The latest figure is 5.7 million for January 2025, up from 5.6 million a year earlier. That is a rise of 0.12 million, or 2.1%. Since 2016 the lowest figure was 4.8 million in January 2016, so the latest estimate is the highest in that span.

Why it matters. With 5.7 million people, Liberia has more households to feed and house than at any point since 2016. Growth of 2.1% over the last year means the state has to extend schools and clinics to more people each year. Firms gain a larger pool of customers and workers, and jobs have to grow at a similar pace to absorb new entrants.
