In plain words

$0.27bn

What it is. Remittance inflows count the money that migrant workers and other relatives abroad send to households in Mozambique, valued in current US dollars. The figure comes from balance of payments records and includes cash and in-kind transfers to households as well as pay earned by residents working abroad. Money that travels through informal channels, such as cash carried across a border, is often only partly recorded, so the true flow is probably larger than the recorded one. Because the series is in current dollars, price changes are left in.

Higher is better. More money arriving from abroad adds to household income and to the supply of foreign currency, so a higher figure is better. The latest figure, for 2025, is $0.27bn, against $0.27bn in 2024, a rise of 0.58%, so the year was close to flat. Since 2016 the series has ranged from a low of $0.09bn in 2016 to a high of $0.42bn in 2018. The 2025 figure sits well above that low and below the 2018 peak.

Why it matters. For recipient households in Mozambique, these transfers help pay for food, school fees and health costs. A flat year means that support has stopped growing, and rising prices can wear down what the same dollars buy. For the state and for firms, remittances are a modest source of foreign currency. The 2018 peak of $0.42bn is the level to watch for any recovery.
