In plain words

$0.01bn

What it is. Personal remittances received counts the money and goods that people working abroad send to relatives at home, together with pay earned by residents who work overseas for short spells. It is recorded in current US dollars, so the figure moves with exchange rates and prices as well as with the amount sent. Transfers carried by hand or sent through unrecorded channels fall outside the measure.

Higher is better. More money arriving from abroad adds to household income and brings in foreign currency without creating any debt, so a higher figure is better. In 2025 the inflow was $0.01bn, up 4.7% from $0.01bn in 2024. Since 2016 the range runs from a low of $0.01bn in 2021 to a high of $0.02bn in 2019. The latest figure therefore sits at the bottom of that range, level with the 2021 low and below the 2019 peak.

Why it matters. At $0.01bn a year, remittances give Seychellois households with relatives abroad a modest supplement for everyday costs. For the state they add a small flow of foreign currency. The 4.7% rise in 2025 is a recovery from a low base, and the 2019 level of $0.02bn is the mark to check it against.
