In plain words

3% y/y

What it is. Population growth is the yearly change in the total number of people living in Angola, shaped by births, deaths and migration. It is an estimate, normally projected forward from counts and surveys, so the latest figure carries more uncertainty than a measured series. It says nothing about age mix, where people live or how well they are living.

Neither way is good in itself. A higher rate can mean a growing workforce and domestic market, and it can also mean more strain on schools, housing and public services. A lower rate eases that strain and brings slower growth in the number of workers and consumers. The latest figure, for 2025, is 3% y/y, level with 3% y/y a year earlier apart from a shift of 0.04 percentage points. Since 2016 the rate has ranged from 3.6% y/y in 2016 down to 3% y/y now, so it sits at the bottom of that range.

Why it matters. At 3% y/y, Angola adds a large number of people every year who need housing, classrooms, clinics and jobs. Household incomes per person rise only if the economy grows faster than the population. For the state, the pace sets how quickly spending on schools and health must expand to keep service levels where they are.
