In plain words
1.9% y/y
What it is. Population growth is the yearly change in the total number of people living in a country, expressed as a percentage. It combines births, deaths and the balance of people moving in and out. A single rate says nothing about the age mix of the population, where people live, or how much of the change comes from births and how much from migration.
Neither way is good in itself. Faster growth brings more workers and more demand for schools, housing and food. Slower growth eases that pressure and also shrinks the future workforce, so the right level depends on what a country can support. Comoros recorded 1.9% y/y in 2025, in line with 1.9% y/y a year earlier, and the rate moved by only 0.04 percentage points over the year. Since 2016 the highest rate was 2.1% y/y, in 2016, and the current figure is the lowest in that span. Growth has eased gently over the period and remains close to two per cent a year.
Why it matters. At 1.9% y/y, Comoros adds a steady stream of new residents every year who need classrooms, health care, homes and jobs. The economy has to expand faster than the population for average incomes to rise. The state faces recurring pressure to extend services and infrastructure across the islands as the population grows.
