Cabo Verde’s primary school enrolment was 93.4% net in 2018.

Higher is better. A higher ratio means more children start school on time and receive the basic reading and numeracy teaching that later learning builds on. The latest figure, 93.4% net in 2018, is up from 92.9% net a year earlier, a rise of 0.56 percentage points. Since 2009 the range runs from a low of 92.6% net in 2016 to a high of 95.4% net in 2009. The latest reading sits close to the bottom of that range, just above the 2016 low and below the 2009 level.

Why it matters. At 93.4% net, most primary-age children in Cabo Verde are enrolled in primary school on time. Families of the remaining children face a later start in education, with less time in the early grades. For the state, the 2009 high of 95.4% net shows a level the country has reached before, and it gives a reference for planning places and teachers across the whole age group.
