In plain words
1.6 per 100 people
What it is. This measure counts fixed broadband subscriptions, meaning connections to a home or business by fibre, cable, DSL or fixed wireless, and divides them by the population. Each subscription is one line, not one user, so a single shared connection in a household or office counts once however many people use it. Mobile data plans are excluded, and in Côte d'Ivoire much internet use runs over mobile.
Higher is better. Higher is better because fixed lines usually carry faster, steadier and cheaper data than mobile plans, which suits video, remote work and running a business. The latest figure, 1.6 per 100 people in 2024, is up from 1.4 a year earlier, a rise of 0.24 per 100 people or 17.5%. It is also the highest level since 2015, when it stood at 0.43 per 100 people, the lowest in that span.
Why it matters. At 1.6 per 100 people, only a small share of households and firms in Côte d'Ivoire have a fixed line. Most people go online through mobile phones, which can be costly for heavy use such as streaming or large file transfers. Further growth would widen access to stable connections for small businesses, schools and public services.
