In plain words
28 per 100 people
What it is. This measure counts fixed broadband subscriptions, meaning wired or fixed-location internet connections such as fibre, cable and DSL, and divides them by the population. It counts subscriptions rather than people, so one household connection used by several family members appears once. Mobile data plans are left out, as are people who go online only through a phone.
Higher is better. A higher figure means more homes and businesses have a stable, fast connection, which supports remote work, online learning and digital services. In 2024 Mauritius stood at 28 per 100 people, up from 26.9 per 100 people a year earlier, a rise of 4%. That is the highest level since 2015, when the figure was 15.3 per 100 people. Subscriptions have climbed across the whole period, and the latest year continued that climb.
Why it matters. At 28 per 100 people, fixed connections reach a growing share of Mauritian households, so more families can stream, study and work from home on a dependable line. Firms that sell services online or rely on cloud tools have a larger base of connected customers and staff. For the state, each further gain widens the audience for digital public services.
