In plain words
0.21 per 100 people
What it is. This measure counts subscriptions to wired high-speed internet, such as fibre, cable or DSL, and divides them by the population. A subscription is a paid connection, so one line serving a household, office or school counts once however many people use it. Mobile data plans are left out.
Higher is better. A higher figure means more homes, schools and businesses have a stable, fast connection of their own. The latest figure is 0.21 per 100 people in 2024, up from 0.09 a year earlier, a rise of 127.4%. Since 2013 the lowest figure was 0.08 in 2019 and the highest was 0.24 in 2016. The 2024 figure therefore sits close to the top of its range and just below the 2016 peak.
Why it matters. At 0.21 per 100 people, fixed connections remain rare in Uganda, so most households and small firms rely on mobile networks to get online. Offices, schools and larger businesses that want a dedicated line have few subscriptions to choose from. The jump in 2024 from a very low base is the change to watch in the next annual figure.
