Cameroon’s life expectancy at birth rose to 64 years in 2024.

Cameroon's latest figure is 64 years, for 2024, up from 63.7 years a year earlier, a gain of 0.27 years or 0.42%. Since 2015 the lowest figure was 59.7 years, recorded in 2015. The 2024 figure of 64 years is the highest in that span, so Cameroon sits at the top of its own range since 2015.

Why it matters. At 64 years, a child born in Cameroon today can expect a life that ends well before the retirement ages common in richer countries. Households plan work, saving and family support around that horizon. The gain of more than four years since 2015 gives the state a larger population surviving into working age and later life, which raises demand for clinics, schools and jobs.
