In plain words

3.2% y/y

What it is. Real GDP growth tracks how much the total volume of goods and services produced inside Cameroon changes from one year to the next. It is built from national accounts valued at constant prices, so price rises are stripped out and only changes in output remain. It covers the whole economy in one figure and leaves out how income is shared, the value of unpaid work, and any damage to natural resources.

Higher is better. Faster growth means more output, more work and more tax revenue to share, which is why a higher figure is better. The latest reading for 2025 is 3.2% y/y, down from 3.5% y/y a year earlier, a fall of 0.32 percentage points. Since 2016 the series has ranged from a low of 0.26% y/y in 2020 to a high of 4.5% y/y in 2016. The 2025 figure sits in the upper part of that range, well above the 2020 low and below the 2016 peak.

Why it matters. Growth of 3.2% y/y means Cameroon's economy is still producing more each year, which supports jobs, business sales and government revenue. The slight slowing from 2024 leaves households and firms with a little less added income to work with than a year earlier. The 2016 level of 4.5% y/y is the benchmark to watch if the pace is to pick up again.
