In plain words

5.6% y/y

What it is. Real GDP growth tracks how much the volume of goods and services produced inside Chad changes from one year to the next. Output is valued at constant prices, so a rise in prices alone does not lift the figure. The World Bank assembles it from national accounts, and it covers recorded production only. It says nothing about how income is shared or how much unrecorded household and informal activity goes on.

Higher is better. Faster growth means more output to share among a growing population, and it usually brings more jobs and more tax revenue, so higher is the better direction. Growth was 5.6% y/y in 2025, up from 5% y/y a year earlier, a gain of 0.64 percentage points. Since 2016 the range runs from a low of −4.1% y/y in 2016 to a high of 5.7% y/y in 2018. The latest reading therefore sits just below the top of that range.

Why it matters. At 5.6% y/y, the economy is producing noticeably more than a year ago, which gives the state a larger base for tax collection and gives firms more demand to serve. Households gain only if that output growth outpaces population growth and price rises. The next annual reading will show whether Chad holds a pace near its 2018 peak.
