In plain words
6.5% y/y
What it is. Real GDP growth tracks how much the value of everything produced in Djibouti's economy changes from one year to the next, after stripping out price rises. The World Bank builds it from national accounts, valuing each year's output at constant prices so that inflation does not inflate the result. It covers the economy as a whole and says nothing about how the gains are shared between households or regions.
Higher is better. Faster growth means more goods and services are produced, which supports jobs, incomes and tax revenue, so a higher figure is better. Growth was 6.5% y/y in 2025, down 0.49 percentage points from 7% y/y in 2024. Since 2016 the series has ranged from 1.2% y/y in 2020 to 7.1% y/y in 2016. The latest figure therefore sits close to the top of that range.
Why it matters. Growth of 6.5% y/y means the economy's real output is expanding quickly, which gives firms a growing market and gives the state a widening base for tax revenue. Households benefit when that output turns into work and wages, though the headline figure cannot show how far it does. The 2020 low of 1.2% y/y shows how far growth can fall, so the next annual release is the figure to check for whether the slight easing from 2024 continues.
