In plain words
71.5% of population
What it is. Urban population is the share of all residents who live in places classed as urban. Each country sets its own definition of urban, usually by settlement size, density or administrative status, so the figure is built from national census and survey data projected forward between counts. It describes where people live, and says nothing about how well urban areas are served with housing, water or jobs.
Neither way is good in itself. A higher or lower urban share is neither a success nor a failure by itself, because it reflects migration, natural growth and how towns are classified. In Angola the latest figure is 71.5% of population for 2025, up from 70.7% a year earlier, a rise of 0.81 percentage points. That is the highest level since 2016, when the share stood at 64.3% of population, its lowest point in the window. The share has therefore climbed over the whole span.
Why it matters. With 71.5% of population in urban areas, most Angolans now depend on city labour markets, urban rents and public services such as transport, water and electricity. Firms find a larger concentrated customer base and workforce. The state faces growing demand for housing, sanitation and infrastructure in cities such as those that absorb new arrivals each year.
