In plain words
69.7 per 100 people
What it is. Mobile subscriptions count active mobile cellular accounts, mostly SIM cards, and divide them by the population to give a figure per 100 people. Each subscription is counted, so a person holding more than one SIM appears more than once. The measure shows how widely mobile service is taken up. Network coverage quality, data speeds and what people spend are outside it.
Higher is better. More subscriptions per 100 people means more of the population can make calls, send messages and use phone-based services, so a higher figure is better. The latest figure, for 2024, is 69.7 per 100 people, against 70.1 per 100 people a year earlier. That is a fall of 0.35 per 100 people. Since 2015 the lowest figure was 42.5 per 100 people in 2018 and the highest was 70.1 per 100 people in 2023. The 2024 figure sits just below the top of that range and well above the 2018 low.
Why it matters. At about 70 subscriptions per 100 people, mobile service in Angola reaches a large share of the population. Households can use phones for calls, messaging and mobile payments. Firms can reach customers by phone, and the state can use mobile channels for public services. The next annual figure will show whether the small dip from the 2023 peak continues.
