In plain words
111.8 per 100 people
What it is. Mobile subscriptions divides the number of mobile cellular subscriptions by the population and multiplies by 100. Each active SIM or plan counts once, so one person with two lines adds two, and the figure can pass 100 when people hold more than one line. It leaves out network quality, data use and price.
Higher is better. Higher is better because each extra subscription is a person or business able to use phone calls, mobile money and online services. Once the figure passes 100, further lines add less, since many are second SIMs. The latest figure is 111.8 per 100 people in 2024, down from 113 per 100 people a year earlier, a fall of 1.2 per 100 people. Since 2015 the range runs from 105.8 per 100 people in 2020 to 119.4 per 100 people in 2017, which puts 2024 in the lower half of that span.
Why it matters. A level above 100 means Cabo Verde has more mobile lines than residents, so phone service reaches households widely and many people carry more than one SIM. Firms can rely on mobile channels to reach customers, and the state can build digital services on that base. The small dip from 2023 to 2024 leaves the level well above its 2020 low.
