In plain words
$2,056
What it is. GDP per capita divides the value of everything produced inside Comoros in a year by the number of people living there, measured in current US dollars. Because it is an average, it says nothing about how income is shared between households. Because it is converted at market exchange rates, it moves with the dollar as well as with real output, and it leaves out unpaid work and much informal activity.
Higher is better. A higher figure means more output per person, which points to more room for incomes, public services and investment. The latest figure is $2,056 for 2025, up from $1,858 a year earlier, a rise of 10.7%. That is the highest level since 2016, when the lowest figure in the window, $1,365, was recorded. The series has therefore climbed steadily across the whole span, and the latest reading sits at the top of its range.
Why it matters. At $2,056 per person, the average output of the Comoran economy is still modest, so most households have limited room beyond food, housing and basic services. A rise of $198 in a year helps most when it reaches wages and remittance-fed spending. Firms and the state gain from a larger base for sales and tax revenue, though the average does not show who receives the gain.
