In plain words

$3,086

What it is. GDP per capita divides the value of everything an economy produces in a year by its population, with the total expressed in current US dollars. Because of that conversion, a weaker Egyptian pound lowers the figure even when output in pounds has grown. It is an average across all residents, so it hides how income is shared, and unpaid household work falls outside it.

Higher is better. More output per person gives a country more room for spending and investment, so a rising figure is the healthy direction. The latest figure, for 2025, is 3,086 USD, down from 3,338 USD a year earlier, a fall of 7.6%. Since 2016 the lowest value was 2,395 USD in 2017 and the highest was 4,233 USD in 2022. The current level sits above that low but nearer to it than to the 2022 peak.

Why it matters. In dollar terms the average Egyptian's share of national output is smaller than in 2022, when it reached 4,233 USD. Imported goods and foreign-currency debts are priced in dollars, so lower dollar income per person makes them harder to cover. The next annual figure will show whether Egypt moves back towards the 3,338 USD of 2024.
