In plain words

$3,257

What it is. GDP per capita takes the value of everything produced in Ghana in a year, converted into US dollars at current exchange rates, and divides it by the population. Because the conversion uses current rates, the figure moves with the cedi's value against the dollar as well as with output and prices. It is an average, so it hides how income is spread between regions and households, and unpaid or informal work is only partly counted.

Higher is better. More output per person leaves more room for wages, spending and public services, so a higher figure is better. The latest figure, for 2025, is 3,257 USD, up from 2,419 USD a year earlier. That is a rise of 837.9 USD, or 34.6%. Since 2016 the lowest level was 1,912 USD in 2016, and the 2025 figure is the highest in that span.

Why it matters. An average output of 3,257 USD per person gives Ghana a larger economy per head to draw on than at any point since 2016, though individual incomes sit well above or below that average. Part of a jump of this size can come from the cedi's exchange rate, so households will feel it only if wages and prices follow. For the state, a bigger dollar economy makes foreign currency debt and imports easier to carry relative to income.
