$6,449
What it is. GDP per capita divides the value of everything produced in Libya in a year by the number of people living there. It is measured in current US dollars, so the figure moves with prices and the exchange rate as well as with the volume of output. It gives an average for the whole population and leaves out how income is shared between households.
Higher is better. A higher figure means more output per person, which gives households more room to spend and the state more to draw on for public services. The latest figure, for 2025, is $6,449, down from $6,569 in 2024. That is a fall of 1.8%, or $120 per person. Since 2016 the range runs from a low of $4,936 in 2021 to a high of $11,197 in 2018. The current level sits above that low and well under the 2018 peak.
Why it matters. At $6,449 per person, the average share of national output is much smaller than the $11,197 reached in 2018. That limits what households can spend and what the state can raise to pay for services. The 2025 fall of 1.8% means output per person is moving further from the 2018 level, though it remains above the 2021 low.
