In plain words
$1,165
What it is. GDP per capita takes the value of all goods and services produced in Sudan in a year and divides it by the number of people living there. The output is converted into US dollars at current exchange rates, so the figure moves with the value of the Sudanese pound as well as with production. It is an average. It leaves out how income is shared, unpaid household work and much informal activity.
Higher is better. Higher is better because more output per person means more income that households can spend, firms can invest and the state can tax. The latest figure, for 2025, is $1,165, up from $984.6 in 2024, a rise of 18.3%. That is the highest level since 2016, the start of the window. The lowest point in the same span was $577.8 in 2020.
Why it matters. An average output of $1,165 per person is the pool from which Sudanese households draw wages, firms draw profit and the state draws tax revenue. Because the measure is in current dollars, part of the rise can come from exchange rate movements rather than from more goods being produced. The next annual reading will show whether the 2025 level holds.
