In plain words
$4,657
What it is. GDP per capita divides the value of everything an economy produces in a year by its population, here measured in current US dollars. Because it is converted at market exchange rates, a weaker dinar lowers the figure even when Tunisians produce just as much at home. It is an average, so it says nothing about how income is shared between regions or households, and it leaves out unpaid work and informal activity that official accounts capture only partly.
Higher is better. A higher figure means more output per person, which gives a country more room for wages, investment and public services. Tunisia's latest figure is $4,657 for 2025, up from $4,188 a year earlier, a rise of $469 or 11.2%. That is the highest level since 2016, the start of the window, and well above the low of $3,529 in 2019.
Why it matters. At $4,657 per person, the average Tunisian economy is producing more than at any point in the past decade, measured in dollars. Imported goods, fuel and foreign debt payments are priced in dollars, so a larger dollar figure eases some of the pressure on households and on the state's external bills. Whether it reaches families depends on how it translates into local wages and prices, which this average cannot show.
