In plain words
1.9% y/y
What it is. Headline inflation follows the price of a broad basket of goods and services bought by households, and compares each month with the same month a year earlier. It covers all items, so swings in food and transport costs feed straight into the figure. The result is an average across the basket, so a household that spends mostly on one category can experience a different rate of price rise.
Lower is better. Lower is better because slower price rises protect what wages and savings can buy and make household budgets easier to plan. The latest figure is 1.9% y/y for February 2026, down from 4% y/y a year earlier, a fall of 2.2 percentage points. It is the lowest reading since Mar 2024. The peak over that span was 5.3% y/y in January 2025.
Why it matters. At 1.9% y/y, everyday items in Cameroon are getting dearer far more slowly than at the start of 2025, so a month's wages and a trader's takings stretch further. Firms can set prices and sign supply contracts with less allowance for rising costs. The next monthly reading will show whether prices keep easing from the February 2026 level.
