In plain words
100% of population
What it is. Electricity access is the share of a country's people who have an electricity connection in the place where they live. It is a headcount of people with access, so a household that has a connection counts in full whether the power runs all day or only for some hours. The measure leaves out how reliable the supply is, how much it costs and how much power each person uses.
Higher is better. A higher share is better because each additional person with access can light a home, keep food cold and charge a phone. Algeria's latest figure, for 2024, is 100% of population, the same as a year earlier. Since 2015 the lowest figure was 99.4% of population, in 2015, and the highest was 100% of population, first reached in 2022. At 100 the measure sits at its ceiling, so it has no room to rise further.
Why it matters. Practically every household in Algeria can connect to the grid, so a home or a new business anywhere in the country can plan around mains power. Any remaining difference between households now lies in how steady and affordable the supply is, which this measure does not record. For the state, the task is keeping that universal coverage supplied as demand grows.
