In plain words
72% of population
What it is. Electricity access is the share of a country's people who can get power at home, whether from a grid connection or a basic off-grid source. It is usually built from household surveys and utility records, so it counts who has a supply. It leaves out outages, voltage quality and the price of each unit.
Higher is better. More people with power means more homes with light, more clinics able to keep vaccines cold and more small businesses able to run machines, so a rising share is an improvement. Cameroon's latest figure is 72% of population for 2024, the same as the 72% of a year earlier, a change of 0 percentage points. Since 2015 the share has ranged from 58.6% of population in 2015 to 72% in 2023, so the latest reading sits at the top of its range. The long climb from 2015 has levelled off in the most recent year.
Why it matters. At 72% of population, most households in Cameroon can power lights, phones and appliances, while the remaining households depend on fuel lamps or private generators. Firms outside the connected areas pay more to keep machines and refrigeration running. A flat latest year means the state has yet to add new connections at the pace that lifted access from 58.6% of population in 2015, and the next annual figure will show whether expansion resumes.
