In plain words
98.4% of population
What it is. Electricity access is the share of a country's residents who live in a household with access to electricity. It is expressed as a percentage of the whole population, so it rises as connections spread. It records whether a household can obtain power. Reliability, hours of supply, voltage quality and the price paid are left out, so a high figure can sit alongside outages.
Higher is better. More people with access means more homes can use lighting, refrigeration and phone charging, so a higher share is better. The latest figure is 98.4% of population in 2024, down 0.2 percentage points from 98.6% a year earlier. The 2023 reading of 98.6% is the highest since 2015, so the latest sits just under the top of its range. The lowest in that span was 86.4% of population in 2015.
Why it matters. At this level almost every household in Cabo Verde can use mains electricity for lighting, cooking appliances, refrigeration and study after dark. Shops, workshops and other firms can count on a connection almost everywhere. The remaining task for the state is to reach the last households on the islands and to keep supply dependable for those already connected.
