In plain words
55.5% of population
What it is. Electricity access is the share of a country's people who have electricity in their home. It counts people rather than power stations or kilometres of cable, so a household with a connection is included however many hours of supply it gets. The measure says nothing about reliability, cost or how much power a household actually uses.
Higher is better. A higher figure is better because every extra person with a connection can light a home, keep food cold and charge a phone. Angola's latest figure is 55.5% of population for 2024, up from 51.1% of population a year earlier, a gain of 4.4 percentage points. Since 2015 the lowest reading was 41.8% of population in 2016, and the 2024 figure is the highest in that span.
Why it matters. At 55.5% of population, a little over half of Angolans have electricity at home. Those households can run lights, refrigerators and phone chargers, and small firms can use machinery without a generator. Everyone outside that share still relies on other sources such as generators, candles or firewood, and the state faces the cost of extending the network to them.
