In plain words
100% of population
What it is. This measure counts the share of a country's people who have access to electricity. It is a headcount of connection, so a household with a supply for a few hours a day counts the same as one with power around the clock. Reliability and affordability sit outside it.
Higher is better. A higher share means more people can use lighting, refrigeration, pumps and phone charging at home, so higher is the better direction. Egypt's latest figure, for 2024, is 100% of population, the same as a year earlier, a change of 0 percentage points. Since 2015 the series has ranged from a low of 99.3% of population in 2015 to a high of 100% of population in 2016. The current reading therefore sits at the very top of its range.
Why it matters. At 100% of population, connecting households to the grid is largely complete in Egypt. Households and firms now feel the difference through tariffs and outages, which this measure does not track. Anyone judging the quality of Egyptian power supply needs other indicators alongside this one.
