In plain words
95.1% of population
What it is. Electricity access gives the share of a country's population that has access to electricity. It records whether people can get power, and it leaves out the reliability of the supply, its price and how much each household uses. A country can therefore score high while some of its households still face outages or high bills.
Higher is better. A higher share means more people can use lighting, refrigeration and phone charging at home and at work, so a rising figure is good. Gabon's latest figure is 95.1% of population for 2024, up from 94.1% of population a year earlier, a gain of 1 percentage points. Since 2015 the lowest reading was 86.3% of population in 2017. The 2024 figure is the highest in that span.
Why it matters. At this level the large majority of Gabonese households can run lights, fridges and phones from a grid or similar supply. Shops and workshops can plan their working day around having power. The people still without electricity are likely to be the hardest to reach, so the state's remaining task is last-mile connections, and the next annual reading will show whether the yearly gain continues.
