In plain words
91.9% of population
What it is. Electricity access is the share of a country's people who live in a household with an electricity connection. It is usually built from household surveys and censuses, with modelling to fill the years between them. It counts whether a connection exists, so it says nothing about how many hours of supply a household gets, how stable the voltage is or what the power costs.
Higher is better. Higher is better because a connection is the first step to lighting, refrigeration, phone charging and powered work, and every person outside the grid is cut off from these. The latest figure for 2024 is 91.9% of population, up from 89.5% a year earlier, a gain of 2.4 percentage points. It is the highest reading since 2015 and sits well above the low of 74% of population recorded in 2015. No peer rank is available for this series.
Why it matters. At 91.9% of population, most Ghanaian households can plug into the grid, which supports small businesses, schools and clinics that depend on power. The remaining share is likely to be concentrated in rural and remote communities, where grid extension is costly for the state. Reaching them will take further connections, and the next annual reading will show whether the recent pace of gain continues.
