In plain words
34.9% of population
What it is. Electricity access is the share of a country's people who live with a source of electricity, usually estimated from household surveys and censuses. It counts people with access, so it describes how far the network and other supply reach. It leaves out how reliable the supply is, how many hours a day it runs, how much it costs and how much power each household uses.
Higher is better. A higher share is better because each person added to the count can use electric light, refrigeration, phone charging and powered equipment at home or work. Liberia's latest figure is 34.9% of population for 2024, up from 32.5% of population a year earlier, a rise of 2.4 percentage points. Since 2015 the range runs from a low of 15.2% of population in 2015 to a high of 34.9% of population in 2024. The latest reading is therefore the highest in that span.
Why it matters. At 34.9% of population, access in Liberia is still well short of universal. Many households depend on kerosene, candles, small generators or paid phone charging, which cost more per unit of energy than grid power. Shops, clinics and workshops often run their own generators, which raises their costs. For the state, each further gain means extending lines and connections to more communities.
