In plain words
59.3% of population
What it is. Electricity access is the share of a country's people who live in a household with a power supply. It counts people with a connection or other source, and leaves out reliability, price and how much electricity a household actually uses. A household with a single light bulb counts the same as one with a full set of appliances.
Higher is better. A higher share is better because each added person gains power for lighting, refrigeration, phone charging and study after dark. Namibia's latest figure, for 2024, is 59.3% of population. A year earlier, in 2023, it was 56.7% of population, a rise of 2.6 percentage points. Since 2015 the lowest reading was 49.7% of population in 2016, and the 2024 figure is the highest in that span.
Why it matters. At 59.3% of population, most Namibians can use electricity at home, while a sizeable share of households still depend on other fuels for light and cooking. Small businesses without a connection find it harder to refrigerate stock, run tools or stay open after dark. Closing the remaining gap falls largely to the state and the utilities, which must extend the grid or supply off-grid systems to scattered settlements.
