In plain words
54.4% of population
What it is. Electricity access is the share of a country's people who have access to electricity. It is a headcount of the population, so it leaves out reliability, hours of supply and price. A household with a weak or costly connection counts the same as one with steady power.
Higher is better. Higher is better because every extra person with access can use light, refrigeration and phone charging, and can run a business on mains or grid-type supply. Somalia's latest figure, for 2024, is 54.4% of population, up from 50.3% of population a year earlier, a rise of 4.1 percentage points. Since 2015 the lowest figure was 48.9% of population in 2022. The 2024 figure is also the highest in that span, so access sits at the top of its own range.
Why it matters. With 54.4% of population connected, a little over half of Somalis can run lights, fridges and phone chargers from an electricity supply. Shops, workshops and cold storage can operate where power is available. The rise of 4.1 percentage points in a single year is the largest step visible since 2022, when access was at its low.
