61.1% of population
What it is. Electricity access is the share of a country's people who live in a household with a working connection to electricity. It is usually estimated from household surveys and censuses, and it counts connections to the grid as well as small off-grid systems such as household solar kits. It says nothing about how reliable the supply is, how many hours a day the power is on, or whether a household can afford to use it.
Higher is better. Higher is better because every additional person with a connection can light a home, charge a phone and run basic appliances. The latest figure for Togo is 61.1% of population in 2024, up 1.9 percentage points from 59.2% a year earlier. Since 2015 the range runs from 44.7% of population in 2015 to 61.1% of population in 2024, so the latest reading is the highest in that span.
Why it matters. At 61.1% of population, roughly four in ten people in Togo still live without electricity. Those households rely on kerosene, candles or batteries for light, and small workshops, clinics and schools in unconnected areas have limited ways to run equipment or stay open after dark. For the state, each further point of coverage means extending the grid or supporting off-grid solar to more of the remaining population.
