In plain words
100% of population
What it is. Electricity access is the share of a country's people who live in a household with an electricity connection or a comparable supply. It counts whether power is available to a household. It leaves out how many hours a day the supply runs, how stable the voltage is and what the bills cost. A figure near the ceiling therefore describes coverage of the grid and leaves quality to other measures.
Higher is better. A higher share is better because each additional person with access can use lighting and refrigeration at home. Tunisia's latest figure, for 2024, is 100% of population, level with 2023 at 100% of population, so the last year brought a change of 0 percentage points. Since 2015 the lowest reading was 99.8% of population in 2018. The highest was 100% of population in 2016. The current figure therefore sits at the top of its range for the period.
Why it matters. Practically every Tunisian household can be served by the grid, so families can rely on refrigeration for food and on lighting for evening study or work. Firms can plan on a grid connection wherever they locate. For the state, the task now is keeping supply dependable and affordable, since extending the grid has little left to add.
