In plain words
40.7% of population
What it is. This measure counts the share of people in Angola who used the internet, on any device and from any place, within a recent reference period. It is usually taken from household surveys or estimated by national statistics offices and international bodies, so it follows people who go online rather than the number of subscriptions or SIM cards. It does not show how fast or how often people connect, or what they do online.
Higher is better. A higher share means more people can reach information, services and work that increasingly sit online, so rising is good for this measure. The latest figure is 40.7% of population for 2024, up from 37.9% of population a year earlier, a gain of 2.8 percentage points. That is the highest level since 2015, when the share stood at 22% of population and the series was at its lowest. Over the window the share has climbed almost without interruption towards its present peak.
Why it matters. At 40.7% of population, a little under half of Angolans are online, so most households still rely on offline channels for banking, schooling and government paperwork. Firms selling or advertising online reach a growing but still limited audience. For the state, digital public services can serve a larger share of citizens each year, though many people remain outside them.
