In plain words
46.3% of population
What it is. Internet users counts people who have used the internet in a recent period, whether on a phone, computer or other device, and divides that number by the whole population. Figures usually come from household surveys and operator data, so they follow actual use rather than subscriptions or connections. Children and adults count alike, and the measure does not capture how fast, how often or how affordably people go online.
Higher is better. A higher share means more people can reach information, mobile money, online services and markets, so higher is better for this measure. Cameroon's latest figure is 46.3% of population in 2024, up from 42.2% of population a year earlier, a rise of 4 percentage points. Since 2015 the share has ranged from 18.3% of population at the start of the window to 46.3% of population in 2024, so the latest reading is the highest in that span.
Why it matters. Nearly half of Cameroonians now use the internet, which widens the pool of customers for online shops, digital payments and remote services. For households it means easier access to schooling material, news and money transfers from relatives. For the state it opens the way to online public services, though over half the population still lies outside the connected group.
