In plain words
65.3% of population
What it is. Internet users counts the share of a country's people who have used the internet, usually within the previous three months, on any device and from any location. National statistics offices or telecom regulators typically estimate it from household surveys, sometimes supplemented by operator data. It covers whether someone goes online and says nothing about connection speed, cost or how often they use it.
Higher is better. A higher share means more people can reach online services, information and work, so a rising figure is good. In 2024 the latest figure was 65.3% of population, up from 64.8% a year earlier, a gain of 0.54 percentage points. Since 2015 the share has climbed from a low of 22.9% of population to its highest point in the window, which is the current reading. Growth in the last year was slower than the long climb since 2015 as a whole.
Why it matters. At 65.3% of population, roughly two in three people in Djibouti are online, so most households can in principle use mobile banking, government portals and remote learning. Firms can reach a customer base that is mostly connected, though the remaining third stays outside digital channels. For the state, the small latest gain suggests that bringing in the rest of the population may need more focus on affordability and coverage.
