What it is. This measure counts the share of people in Cabo Verde who use the internet, on any device and from any place. Each person is counted once, whatever the number of connections or subscriptions they hold. It describes who goes online and leaves out connection quality and how often people use it.
Higher is better. A higher share is better because more people online can reach public services, learning, banking and customers. The latest figure is 74.7% of population in 2024, against 74.6% of population a year earlier, a rise of 0.14 percentage points. That is a small step. Since 2015 the share has climbed from 42.7% of population, and 2024 is the highest point in that span.
Why it matters. For households, three in four people online means everyday tasks such as messaging, schoolwork, job searches and paying bills can happen on a phone. Firms can reach most local customers online. The state can put services on the web, while the people still offline need counters or other routes to those services. The 2024 gain shows that growth in use has slowed from the pace seen since 2015.
