In plain words
32.5% of population
What it is. Internet users counts the share of people in Comoros who go online, whether on a phone, a computer or another device. It is usually estimated from household surveys and operator data, then scaled to the whole population. It shows how many people have reached the internet, but says nothing about speed, cost, quality of connection or what people do online.
Higher is better. A higher share means more people can reach information, services, markets and jobs that depend on a connection, so a rising figure is good news. The latest figure is 32.5% of population for 2024, up from 31.9% of population a year earlier, a gain of 0.59 percentage points. It is also the highest level since 2014, when it stood at 7% of population, the lowest in that span.
Why it matters. About one in three people in Comoros now use the internet, so most households still live without regular access to online banking, remittance apps, public information or remote work. For firms, the online market remains limited, which restricts e-commerce and digital payments. For the state, moving services online will reach only a minority of citizens for now.
