In plain words
47.3% of population
What it is. This measure counts the share of people in the Republic of the Congo who used the internet in a given period, on any device and from any place. Figures usually come from household surveys and from operator and regulator data, then are scaled to the whole population. It records whether someone goes online at all, so it says nothing about speed, price or how often people connect.
Higher is better. A larger share of people online means more of the population can reach information, services and markets that increasingly sit on the internet, so a higher figure is better. The latest figure is 47.3% of population for 2024, up from 43.2% of population a year earlier, a rise of 4.1 percentage points. It is also the highest reading since 2015, when the share stood at 7.6% of population, its lowest point in that span.
Why it matters. At 47.3% of population, close to half of Congolese people can now use online services such as mobile money, messaging and information searches. Firms can reach a much larger customer base online than a decade ago, and the state can offer more public services digitally. The other half of the population remains outside these channels, so paper and in-person routes still matter for reaching them.
