In plain words
19.7% of population
What it is. This measure counts individuals who used the internet, expressed as a share of the whole population. Children and older people sit in the denominator, so the figure reflects the country as a whole rather than only working-age adults. It records whether a person went online and carries no information on connection speed, cost or how often they use it.
Higher is better. A higher share is better because each additional user can reach information, public services, jobs and markets online. The latest figure is 19.7% of population in 2024, up from 19% of population a year earlier, a gain of 0.71 percentage points. Since 2014 the range runs from a low of 3% of population in 2014 to a high of 19.7% of population in 2024. The latest reading is therefore the highest in that span.
Why it matters. With 19.7% of population online, the large majority of Congolese households sit outside services that depend on a connection, such as digital payments, online schooling and remote government forms. Firms selling or advertising online reach a small share of potential customers, so face-to-face and radio channels stay important. The state faces the same limit when it moves services onto the internet.
