In plain words
63.3% of population
What it is. This measure estimates the share of residents who have used the internet, on any device and from any location. It counts individuals, so one shared phone can bring several users into the total. It captures reach only. Speed, price, how often people go online and what they do there fall outside it.
Higher is better. A higher share is better because more people online can reach information, payments, public services and customers. The latest figure is 63.3% of population in 2024, down from 63.5% of population a year earlier, a fall of 0.22 percentage points. Since 2015 the series has ranged from a low of 21.3% of population in 2015 to a high of 63.7% of population in 2022. The current level sits just below that peak, so growth has levelled off after the steep rise of the earlier years.
Why it matters. Most people in Equatorial Guinea are now online, which gives households a route to messaging, news, mobile services and online learning. Firms and public agencies can reach a majority of the population through digital channels. A sizeable minority remains offline, so services delivered only online will miss them. The next annual reading will show whether the small dip in 2024 continues.
