In plain words
63.4% of population
What it is. This measure takes the number of individuals who use the internet and divides it by the whole population, so children and older people count in the denominator. It describes how widely the internet is used across the country. Connection speed, data prices and how often people go online sit outside it.
Higher is better. A higher share is better because more people online can reach information, public services, banking and markets. Eswatini's latest figure is 63.4% of population in 2024, up from 61.3% of population a year earlier, a rise of 2.1 percentage points. Since 2015 the range runs from a low of 25.6% of population in 2015 to a high of 63.4% of population in 2024. The latest reading is therefore the highest in that span.
Why it matters. For households, a share of about 63 per cent means online banking, mobile payments, school information and job searches are within reach of most people, though a sizeable minority is still offline. Firms can sell to and communicate with a larger customer base than they could in 2015. The state can move more services online, and the next annual figure will show whether the pace of about two percentage points a year holds.
