In plain words
68.7% of population
What it is. This measure counts the share of people in Gabon who used the internet, whether on a phone, a computer or another device. It is usually drawn from household surveys and from telecom operator records, then scaled to the whole population. It covers use by individuals and says nothing about speed, price, data caps or how often people go online.
Higher is better. A higher share means more people can reach online services, information and work, so a rising figure is good news for this measure. The latest figure is 68.7% of population in 2024, up from 68.2% a year earlier, a gain of 0.52 percentage points. That is the highest level since 2015, when the share stood at 45.8% of population, its lowest in the window. Growth has slowed as the share has climbed, and the latest yearly step is small.
Why it matters. At 68.7% of population, roughly seven in ten Gabonese people go online, so most households and firms can be reached by digital services such as mobile payments, online ordering and government portals. The remaining third are still outside these channels, which matters for services that move online only. Further gains will depend on reaching people who are harder to connect.
