In plain words
72.2% of population
What it is. This measure counts people who used the internet, as a share of everyone living in the country. Each person counts once, however many devices or accounts they use. Speed, cost and how often people go online sit outside the measure, so an occasional user counts the same as a daily one.
Higher is better. A higher share is better because more people can reach online services, information, jobs and markets. Ghana's latest figure is 72.2% of population for 2024, up from 70.7% of population a year earlier, a rise of 1.5 percentage points. Since 2015 the lowest figure was 22.1% of population in 2019. The 2024 figure is the highest in that span, so the series sits at the top of its own range.
Why it matters. In 2024 the internet was used by 72.2% of population in Ghana, so most households can use online banking, mobile payments, schooling resources and job search. Firms can sell and advertise online to most of the country, and the state can put more public services on the web. People who remain offline have less access to all of these.
