In plain words
33.3% of population
What it is. Internet users counts the share of a country's people who have used the internet, usually in the past three months, from any device and any place. It is normally drawn from household surveys and operator records, then scaled to the whole population. It records whether someone goes online at all, so it says nothing about speed, cost or how often they connect.
Higher is better. A higher share is better because more people can reach information, services, jobs and markets online. Guinea's latest figure is 33.3% of population for 2024, up from 32.3% a year earlier, a gain of 0.99 percentage points. Since 2015 the share has climbed from a low of 9.2% of population, and the latest reading is the highest in that span.
Why it matters. About one Guinean in three is now online, so the mobile payments, online banking and digital government services that depend on connectivity still miss most of the population. Firms selling or recruiting online reach a growing but minority audience. The state can use digital channels for some services, though it needs other routes to reach the two thirds who are offline.
